Introducing Tennyson Tappan
This week, we are so excited to welcome our newest instructor to the podium, Tennyson Tappan. A long time rider at Rêve and avid mountain biker, Tennyson is so excited to bring his signature funky playlists and challenging and powerful rides to the Rêve community. We caught up with him to discuss what inspired him to become an instructor, what we might expect from his classes, and where we can find him and his dog, Teeny, outside of the studio!
1. I ride at Rêve because…
I have tons of irons in the fire… While I’m riding in the Rêve room I only have to focus on two things: me and my ride. I would drag msely to class after an exhausting day and walk out feeling like I could take on the world. All of the instructors are uplifting and engaged and focused on bringing the very best in you to the forefront of your ride.
2. Teaching’s a big job! About what are you most excited? What makes your class unique?
I’m excited to give back what I have found within the Rêve walls. Even if I reach just one person, JUST ONE (hopefully more!), it will most likely make my whole year. I hope that my classes will create empowered riders to find individual strength, confidence, and growth that I found in myself as a rider.
3. My favorite moment in class is when…
That very first song that comes on. That moment when the music hits my ears, gets into me, moves my legs and smile just comes over me.
4. The most challenging part about becoming an instructor has been…
Oh my gosh… ALL OF IT!! Just all of it. I never EVER thought I had what it would take to be an instructor. Every week during my training months I would say, “I can’t do this, I’m going to quit.” But I would walk up to the podium, shaking with nerves, let all my walls down, let my weaknesses show and just ride. I have so much more growth and I’m still finding my voice on the podium. All of the support from fellow instructors and riders is what keeps me wanting to be the very best instructor I can be.
5. What kind of music should we anticipate hearing on your playlists?
Some grit and some funk, and everything in between!
6. When I’m not at the studio, you can find me…
I work part time at LLBean and it’s the BEST job I’ve ever had! So, if you’re up there come say hi to me! My girlfriend and I have incredibly busy work schedules so we take what little time we have to hit some mountain bike trails with our dog Teeny.
7. Anything else you'd like the Rêve community to know about you?
I’m a born east coast Mainer but I think in a past life I was a cowboy. Otherwise….I’m so over the moon to a part of the Rêve community, it’s so humbling being surrounded by such strong instructors and riders.
