Trek Across Maine, Rêve Style!

For the first time ever, Rêve is sponsoring a team for Trek Across Maine, happening June 17 – 19, 2016. Instructor extraordinaire Chris Davis, who has two years of experience with the Trek, is serving as our team captain, and encourages everyone, even those of us who may not have a lot of outdoor riding experience, to sign up! He helped us answer some questions about the Trek for anyone who may be thinking about doing it. Hopefully, his answers to the following questions will convince you that this is YOUR year to Rêve it up on the Trek! FullSizeRender-4

What exactly is the Trek Across Maine? The Trek Across Maine is a 3-day, 180 mile cycling event from the mountains of Sunday River to the sea in Belfast. As the largest fundraising event of its kind in the nation for the American Lung Association, the Trek has raised more than $22 million in the past 30 years. Join more than 2,000 cyclists and 750 volunteers on this one of a kind journey on Father’s Day Weekend.

DATE: June 17 - 19, 2016 START LOCATION: Sunday River Ski Resort - Newry, ME FINISH LOCATION: Steamboat Landing - Belfast, ME AGE LIMIT: 7 years and up.

What will be especially awesome about being part of Team Rêve? The trek is truly a magical weekend where hundreds of volunteers and riders come together to promote a healthy cause over the beautiful back roads of Maine! We will have Team Rêve jerseys (for the first 20 people who sign up) and pre-Trek training rides to get the team prepared and introduced. This is an excellent way to continue to use your training at Rêve to accomplish an amazing feat.

What if I don't have a road bike? You don't need a fancy bike. Any bike will do. Also, the Bike Swap in the spring at USM is an excellent place to find a new/used bike.

Do I bring all my luggage on my back? No. They have volunteers to truck everyone's luggage to each night's resting stop.

How do I eat? We are fed at 4-5 rest stops each day. Also we eat in the dining halls at UMF and Colby. This is what the registreation fee helps cover.

So, pretty much everything is taken care of, and I just ride with new friends in an awesome jersey? Yes. It's part of what makes this so fun!

How do I sign up? Visit our team page. There is a $65 registration fee which covers your food, entertainment and safety for the 3 days. Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $550 ($400 ages 7-17) for the American Lung Association prior to the event. Ten people have already signed up to be on Team Rêve!

See you on the road!
